Spider Vein Treatment Candidates

Spider Vein Treatment CandidatesSpider veins and minor varicose veins are common dermatology conditions that appear like a spider’s web on the surface of the skin. Many people feel that the appearance of spider veins is a sign of aging or gives an unsightly look to their legs or face. In rare cases, these veins may also cause discomfort to the patient, if these are left untreated for long.

The skin care expert will evaluate the patient’s condition of spider veins and determine whether they are an appropriate candidate for spider vein treatment. Board certified dermatologist Dr. Tri H. Nguyen and Dr. George Hughes III provide spider vein treatments to patients in Houston, Katy, Spring, The Woodlands, Texas, and surrounding locations.

Candidacy

In some cases, the visible spider vein effect on the skin’s surface may be quite mild or insignificant, and the patient may not need treatment. For such people, the dermatology expert may not recommend a specific therapy to eliminate spider veins. But if the spider veins are visible conspicuously in one or more areas of the body, and the patient feels unhappy about it, the patient may be a suitable candidate for spider vein treatment.

The candidate should be committed to follow the complete treatment course prescribed by the provider. They should also be prepared to follow the pre- and post-treatment instructions to achieve safe and desirable outcomes. A good candidate will have a positive state of mind, clear aesthetic priorities and reasonable expectations. The treatment provider may present spider vein treatment before and after pictures to help the patient develop reasonable expectations.

In some cases, the dermatologist may first seek to know whether the candidate has tried to address the condition of spider veins with alternative approaches such as a weight loss program, a regular fitness regimen, or wearing compression stockings. If these efforts have not led to improvement of the spider veins condition, the candidate may be fit to receive injectable or other spider vein treatments.

The candidate should be aware of the pros and cons of the spider vein treatment options suggested by the dermatologist. They should choose the treatment that is most appropriate in their case, and is also affordable.

Who is not a Candidate?

While anyone may suffer from spider veins and may feel trouble by the unsightly appearance of the skin, not every individual may be a good candidate. An individual with one or more of the following attributes may not be a good candidate for spider vein treatment:

  • Suffering from any underlying health condition or a skin infection in the affected area, which may interfere with the treatment
  • Patient is pregnant or bedridden
  • Receiving prescription anticoagulants or blood thinning drugs, which cannot be temporarily stopped
  • Having an arterial disease in the legs or suffer from other vascular problems
  • Having a blood clot in the affected site of treatment

Board certified dermatologist Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Hughes receive patients from Houston, Katy, Spring, The Woodlands, Texas, and other communities across the landscape for spider vein treatments.
