Chemical Peels

Types Of Chemical Peels A Dermatologist Can OfferChemical peels are a safe and proven aesthetic dermatology treatment for rejuvenating the face and other areas, such as the hands and neck. Your skin’s texture and appearance are enhanced by using chemical peels. A chemical solution will be applied to the affected area by your treatment provider. This will trigger exfoliation and resultant peeling off.

Renewed skin tissue that comes underneath is generally smoother, less wrinkled and with lesser sun damage once this happens. Chemical peel treatments can be chosen for a wide variety of reasons, such as sun damage, acne scars, wrinkles, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, skin redness, uneven tone, uneven texture, and melasma.

Chemical peels are meant to peel away the most superficial skin layers though customized chemicals. There are three different types of chemical peel categories with varying strengths. Discuss the appropriate type of peels for your facial skin during your initial consultation with the dermatologist.

Texas Surgical Dermatology, led by board certified dermatologist Dr. Tri H. Nguyen provides chemical peels to patients in Houston, Katy, Spring, The Woodlands, Texas, and surrounding communities.

Light Peels

Superficial or light peels can be used by all people without concern for risk of complications or side effects. They are recommended for treating minor aberrations on the skin. You don’t need to use anesthesia since there is only minimal discomfort. This type of chemical peel can be performed as an outpatient procedure.

Light peels generally involve using a mild form of glycolic acid on the skin. In most cases, there is little to no downtime required. Healing almost always occurs immediately. Your skin may appear pink for a few days following the treatment, which can be hidden easily with makeup.

Medium Peels

Medium chemical peels involve a few days of downtime even though they can be performed as outpatient procedures. TCA acid is a common peeling agent used in these. The peel penetrates deeper within the skin as compared to superficial chemical peels. Healing doesn’t take more than a week, after which makeup can be applied.

New skin takes a few days to appear after this chemical peel. The treated skin may flake away after becoming crusty almost immediately after the treatment. The procedure involves minimal discomfort and pain.

Deep Peels

Deep peels are recommended for people that want to dramatically improve their skin appearance without undergoing a cosmetic surgery. These peels are of maximum strength and involve highly strong TCA concentrations. Deep peel treatments work by removing the upper skin layers. After this, younger and newer looking skin can appear.

You would require at least two weeks for recovery. You won’t be able to attend to your work and social activities during this period. It takes about three weeks for the redness to completely fade away. Full results may take several months to completely appear.

Chemical Peels Aftercare

You should stay out of the sun for a few weeks following a chemical peel treatment. This is until your skin has fully healed. It’s crucial that you follow the post-operative instructions listed by your treatment provider to achieve desirable and safe results.
