Center of Excellence

We are committed to excellence simply because it is the only way to practice medicine. As Dr William Mayo (Mayo Clinic) so aptly saidThe best interest of the patient is the only interest to be considered…”  Dr Nguyen has a lifelong dedication to excellence.  He has served on faculty at such premier institutions as the Mayo Clinic (1998-2003) and MD Anderson Cancer Center (2003-2009).   While at MD Anderson, Dr Nguyen was a leader in several roles: Director of Texas Surgical Dermatology PA, Program Director of a fellowship in Mohs Surgery, and Director of Residency surgical training for the Department of Dermatology at UT-Medical School. Dr Nguyen was elected a Fellow in Clinical Safety and Effectiveness (FCSE) for his commitment to patient safety and quality improvement.

Dr Nguyen is a leader in medical education.  He has served on the Board of Directors of such medical organizations as: the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS), the American College of Phlebology (ACP),  the Association of Academic Dermatologic Surgeons (AAADS), the International Transplant and Skin Cancer Collaborative (ITSCC), the Foundation of International Dermatology Education (FIDE), and Vietnam Vascular Anomalies Center (VAC).  Dr Nguyen spearheaded the national curriculum for fellowship training in Dermatologic Surgery and helped to establish the standards for the first fellowship in Phlebology (venous disease).

Educating physicians and patients: At Texas Surgical Dermatology PA of NWDC, Dr Nguyen frequently receives physicians and trainees from all over the world to learn from his expertise.  While training the next generation of physicians, Dr Nguyen believes most in educating his patients.  An educated patient is an involved patient in his or her care.   “Only if our patients understand will they know how to help themselves.  However, our patients will understand only if we first show them that we genuinely care.”  When younger doctors ask Dr Nguyen on the future of health care, Dr Nguyen replies  “Change is a constant. There are many uncertainties in the future of medicine. “What will never change is our obligation to our patients: to deliver superb patient care that is safe, effective, and compassionate.”
