Procedure
Prior to your treatment, your skin will be numbed with a topical anesthetic. Once you are numbed, your laser technician will begin going over your treatment area with the laser. The laser will heat and remove the outer layer of the skin and stimulate collagen reproduction. This treatment typically takes between an hour to two hours to complete, depending on the size of the treatment area. You may need multiple treatments to achieve desired results.
Recovery
Depending on the type of laser resurfacing treatment you undergo, your skin may be raw and inflamed for about a week. You will need to avoid direct sun exposure, clean your face, take pain relievers and apply ice compressions during your recovery. If you opt for nonablative laser skin resurfacing, your recovery will likely be minimal and only inflamed for a few hours.
